James E. Redman

Welcome to the James E. Redman web pages at kombyonyx.com

This site provides an overview of my chemistry research and interests. I am currently based at the School of Chemistry, Cardiff University where I am investigating synthesis of topologically diverse molecules on the solid phase combined with mass spectrometric structure determination, small molecule recognition of folded nucleic acids, and engineering of DNA binding proteins. My previous research at the University of Cambridge concerned quadruplex DNA, screening of nucleic acid ligands and synthesis of peptide-dye conjugates. My time prior to this at the Scripps Research Institute led to the development of the Sequence V1.5 program for sequencing cyclic peptides by mass spectrometry which is described at www.kombyonyx.com.

Other research interests have included 4-helix bundle peptides, supramolecular porphyrin chemistry and crown ether ion pair receptors.

My principal hobby is computer graphics, and this site displays a number of images and animations. A variety of programs were used for the creation of these images and I have provided details of how each was generated.

There are also photographs from some of my walking and cycling trips.

Please click on a link to the left to learn more about my chemistry and to view the animations and pictures.
