The cloth simulation software treats the cloth as a network of springs under the influence of gravity. The table top is a circular disk surrounded by a torus to give a smooth edge. The vertices of the cloth are prevented from passing though this surface. After a number of iterations, normals are calculated for the cloth, which is written to a file as a POV-Ray smooth triangle mesh.
The table, vase and flower were modelled in Rhino, exported for POV and merged with the cloth geometry.
The rendering used the area light and depth of field features of POV-Ray.
