The Iron Mountain

Right: Iron Mountain “base camp”, just off Highway 67.

Iron Mountain Summit

There is a longer circular trail which gives spectacular views of Ramona. No water is available, so it is essential to carry plenty.

Right: Giant boulders on the slopes of Mount Woodson (2901 feet). There is a track to the summit, which itself is marred by a collection of radio masts. The area is popular with rock climbers.

The Iron Mountain (2696 feet) can easily be accessed by car from Highway 67, to the east of the city of Poway. There is then a climb of several miles to the summit

However it’s much more fun to cycle all the way up it, as I did in a mad moment.
