Interests

My principal hobby is the use of modelling and rendering applications for the generation of three dimensional images. These techniques are often useful for the communication of chemical ideas, although many of the images shown here are entirely unrelated to chemistry.

Some of the images and animations were intended to explore aspects of rendering/animation and to test out the implementation of these features in a particular program.

The programs that have been used are Lightwave3D 7.5, Rhino 2 with the Rhinoman plug-in, Poser 4 Pro, BMRT, POV-Ray, PovChem, Accelrys ViewerLite, Corel Draw, Photopaint and some home made programs. The website was created with NetObjects Fusion 7.

I also enjoy walking and cycling, and have devoted a few of these pages to photographs from my recent travels.

Benzene molecule, rendered in POV-Ray. CPK and stick models were created from a pdb file using PovChem, combined and CSG used to generate the cutaway effect.
