Below: The Jardin du Luxembourg, with the Palais du Luxembourg. Beautifully tended flower beds, a pond and sculptures make these gardens perfect for a gentle stroll.
The Jardin des Plantes (right), or botanical gardens, showcases herbs, food crops, decorative plants and alpine species. Unfortunately the tropical greenhouses were closed for renovation when I visited (2005).
